I worked under the supervision of Lars Feren Schmitz in the year long Anthropology 195 Senior Capstone. I worked closely with other students pursuing a senior thesis who provided me with valuable feedback on my work.
Greater Mahale Ecosystem and Research(GMERC) staff collect and maintain all camera trap footage in the Issa Valley. GMERC mails this camera trap footage to the UCSC Chimpanzee Video Coding Team.
The Chimpanzee video coding team meticulously codes all camera trap footage mailed by GMERC. This includes categorizing the footage by species, behavior, age class, sex, etc. All of camera footage used for this study was processed by the Chimpanzee Video Coding Team.
