I'll be the lead producer for this production, which I guess makes me the club president by default. When I first heard the idea of our own filmmaking club last year, I was sitting around a dining hall table with my friends, frustrated by my own limited capabilities as a filmmaker. I had been working on my own amateur movies before coming here, and over that last year tried to make the best works possible through both FPC and several of the school's own production classes. However, none of them provided the right opportunity to make something I would be unashamedly proud of.
So when some friends of mine suggested making our own club, I immediately knew that it would be what UC Santa Cruz is missing. As the academic year wound down, our vision only become clearer and more ambitious. I've directed quite a few of my own projects at this point: I know how to make movies and what structures are required to do so. Looking back, what could have helped me the most was having a well-managed production team, and a capable producer.
As the producer, it's my job to make sure everyone in the club has what they need to do their best work, and I'll be presiding over the general shape of the project in this coming year.
I've been making movies with my family since I was sixteen, and I've picked up quite a few skills along the way, which I can't wait to share with all of you. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself:
