The following are RA's who work on different experiments through the IntERPrET Lab at UCSC
Ryan Le is a 4th year Psychology student at UCSC. He plans to continue his education at SDSU and get an MS in Counseling, specifically Marriage and Family Therapy. He joined this lab in the fall of 2023, hoping to have a fun and educating experience about research and EEG/ERP data. In his free time, He likes to play volleyball, go to the gym, play video games, and hang out with friends.
Guadalupe is a 4th-year Cognitive Science student with a focus on Linguistics at UCSC. She has been involved in the IntERPrET lab as a research assistant for two years. Fascinated by language and the cognitive processes behind code-switching she joined the lab to gain experience with EEG and eye-tracking methods for future application in research. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and a beginner in Italian. She is passionate about research and in the future, she hopes to apply these skills in research geared toward clinical application by integrating EEG and MRI techniques for studying populations with language impairments and disorders. Using both high temporal and spatial resolutions to help us better understand the development of these conditions and maybe even shed light on possible interventions.
Joezy is a third year transfer student studying Psychology at the University of Santa Cruz. She joined the lab in Winter 2024 to get involved in research and to investigate code switching within bilingual individuals. She is fluent in both English and Spanish, and is also learning ASL. She is considering a career in developmental psychology to work with children within minority populations in economically disadvantaged areas. In her free time, she likes hiking, traveling, and hanging out with her cat.
Aeryn Armstrong-Azhar is a 2nd year at UCSC studying Cognitive Science and Applied Linguistics. He plans to pursue graduate school in Europe due to family heritage and a love for travel. They joined the lab in Winter 2024 to gain research experience and learn more about language processing. They are a German tutor through LSS at UCSC and are on the UCSC Women’s Rugby team.
Darya is a 2nd year student at UCSC studying cognitive science and applied linguistics. She joined the lab in the winter of 2024 to get involved in research and learn more about the cognitive processes behind bilingualism. She is considering a career in speech pathology, and speaks Spanish and Farsi in addition to English. In her free time, she plays piano and guitar and experiments with cooking new recipes.
Christopher is a third-year cognitive science and psychology student at UCSC. He joined the IntERPrET lab in the winter quarter of 2024 to explore his interest in the cognitive processes behind language comprehension and bilingual language control. He is fluent in Spanish and English and is also learning Quechua. He is looking to pursue a career in neuropsychology and provide support, understanding, and guidance to those with neurological conditions or injuries. In his free time, he likes to run, hike, and go to the beach.
Irene is a 3rd year student studying Cognitive Science (AI/HCI) and Linguistics. She plans to become a user-experience researcher and continue her education in human-computer interaction. Irene joined the lab not just to gain research experience but because of her interest in language research having grown up a heritage speaker. Outside of school, Irene enjoys reading books and trying out new foods with friends and family!
Carrie Tse is a 2nd year Psychology and Legal Studies student at UCSC. In the future, they are eager to deepen their knowledge in Forensic Psychology. They just joined the lab in Winter 2024 in hopes of gaining research experience and learning the application of EEG. They are fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English after living in Hong Kong for 13 years. In their free time, they enjoy stopping by the gym, playing the piano, and making anime paintings.
Miguel is a 4th year at UCSC majoring in Cognitive Science. He plans to continue his education further, with experience from the lab giving him a great path for a future in research. He is Mexican-American and bilingual as well which gives him a great interest in the work done at the intERPrET lab. His interests are soccer, driving, and playing games with his friends and family.
Kaia is a third-year Intensive Psychology major. She is a research assistant in the lab and loves learning about new languages and cultures. She’s studied abroad in Zaragoza, Spain, and Sorrento, Italy, and travels whenever she gets the chance. Her hobbies include being in nature, cooking, and spending time with her dogs Mazlow and Leo.
Kaitlyn is a second-year Cognitive Science major, focusing her studies on the language processing of humans and computers! She joined the lab in Spring 2024 with excitement to gain experience in hands-on research, join a fun group of slugs with similar interest in bilingualism, and learn more about the awesome functions of the brain. Beyond academics, she is a swimmer on the UCSC Swim & Dive team, enjoys video games, and loves to play volleyball.
Amelia is a research assistant for the IntERPrET lab. She is currently a student at UC Santa Cruz double majoring in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. Amelia has a growing interest in language processing and bilingualism. Outside of school, she enjoys reading books, especially history, traveling, and learning languages. From a young age, Amelia has had a love for languages and learned to read basic Egyptian hieroglyphs which started her fascination for history and languages.
