Our research group mainly studies clouds: how they form, evolve, and dissipate.
Clouds are interesting because they affect weather and climate. They produce precipitation, and influence sunlight shining on Earth and infrared radiation leaving the Earth.
We sometimes study aerosols as well, often in the context of their interaction with clouds.
Our approach typically involves collecting data and analyzing it.
We often collect data using an instrument called a phase Doppler interferometer, for which we partner with Artium Technologies.
We usually use aircraft to make our measurements, most frequently with the CIRPAS Twin Otter. We have participated in field campaigns in many parts of the U.S. and the rest of the world.
