Articulated courses & equivalent courses are both types of transfer credit.
Articulation is a formal agreement between two schools in which courses at the “sending” institution are identified and approved as comparable to specific courses or requirements at a “receiving” institution (such as UCSC). The term “articulation” specifically refers to agreements between individual California Community Colleges (CCCs) and UCSC; agreements between two UCs or other non-CCC institutions are called “equivalencies.”
General information on transfer credit (including how to have it sent to UCSC) can be found here.
Students who wish to complete coursework at a California Community College should reference assist.org to determine what UCSC coursework they may receive transfer credit for. NOTE: Articulation/equivalency is based on when the student completed the course. As such, students should reference the assist.org agreement for the academic year in which the course was taken to confirm how it articulates.
Chemistry & Biochemistry Advising welcomes our students to double check with us before enrolling in/beginning a course elsewhere to confirm that they're pursuing the correct course elsewhere after using assist.org to find an equivalent.
TES (transfer evaluation system) is a database of all courses from non-community college outside institutions (including out-of-state, four-year institutions, international institutions, etc.) that have been previously reviewed and articulated (approved) for transfer credit for a particular course(s) at UCSC. The link below will take you to the landing page where you choose the institution you are hoping to transfer credit from.
Instructions for TES:
Navigate to TES
After clicking on the name of your school of interest, you will be taken to a page with a three-column list:
The first column shows you the list of courses at your chosen school that have been reviewed and approved for credit at UCSC
The second column shows you which courses at UCSC the course from the first column are equivalent to
NOTE: Articulations/Equivalencies listed in TES has approval date ranges that are not made public by TES. These are the dates the course equivalent has been reviewed and approved for. Courses must be re-reviewed for transferability after the approval date has expired & renewed approval outside of the published date range is not guaranteed.
Therefore, Chemistry & Biochemistry Advising strongly encourages our students to double check with us before enrolling in/beginning a course elsewhere to confirm that they're pursuing the correct course elsewhere after using TES to find an equivalent.
Current UCSC students who wish to complete coursework at another UC, a CSU, an out-of-state community college, or any other 4-year institution and earn transfer credit toward a UCSC CHEM or BIOC course, should complete & submit this course equivalency review form so the course can be reviewed for equivalency/articulation.
