My name is Marla (she/her) and I am the Lead Advisor of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry here at UCSC. I've been living in Santa Cruz county since 2015 and working for UCSC since 2017. Before that, I lived on the east coast and earned two degrees from Rutgers University: a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management. I wound up in California after falling in love with this area while participating in an exchange program that landed me at CSU Monterey Bay for one year during my undergrad. I am passionate about many things, especially nature, holistic health & wellness, dance, and art.
My philosophy of advising is centralized around collaborating with students to help them understand themselves more as full human beings, beyond just academic identity, so they may identify and utilize their strengths independently and confidently to reach their personal, educational, & career goals, whatever those may be. I am happy to be on UCSC students' support team.

My name is Melissa (she/they) and I am excited to be a part of your support team here at UCSC! I’m originally from Austin, TX but have called Santa Cruz home for some time now. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2012) and a Master of Education-Student Affairs Higher Education (2016). Throughout my career, my focus has been on providing support and increasing access to opportunities for underserved communities, with a special focus on those with low income and lacking traditional family support. I have worked at several universities in Residence Life, Academic Success, Identity-based support programs, Study Away programs, and Academic Advising and have found a deep interest in supporting students pursuing STEM pathways – you are needed now more than ever!
In my free time, you’ll find me at the beach with paints and a sketchbook, chilling in a coffee shop with my partner, or hiking in the redwoods with my senior pup, Luna.

My name is Alexis (She/Her) and I am a third year undergraduate student here at UCSC and I am a Biochemistry & Molecular Biology major. I love matcha, animals, going to the beach, and meeting new people. I have been working in the Chemistry & Biochemistry office since Fall ‘24 and had so much fun working with all of you last year and I plan to have another good year in 2026! I peer advise for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, the Chemistry minor, Chemistry B.A, Chemistry B.S, and Chemistry with a Biochemistry concentration. If you need to create an academic plan, are hoping to declare your major, wishing to switch to a Chemistry or Biochemistry major, need help with enrollment, or have any general questions, I am always happy to assist you!
