Creating Change Through Community Engagement and Economic Equity in Salinas
Project Description
The Salinas Inclusive Economic Development Initiative is a newly-formed cohort made up of nine Salinas-based community organizations which aims to increase economic prosperity in the region through their work and organizing. We partnered with SIEDI to create a story map collection which displays their answers to the question: why does Salinas need a more inclusive economy? The story maps also highlight the impact that each organization has had on the community, and provides links to resources and other ways to get involved or access the valuable services these organizations provide to the people of Salinas.

Project Outcomes
By creating a story map collection on ArcGIS, our team was able to increase awareness of the resources and services that the nine SIEDI organizations provide to Salinas residents. Our project also assisted the SIEDI organizations with developing their narratives through their collaboration with us on their story maps.
Project Milestones
Our team first introduced our project to the SIEDI organization during their convening in March 2022. We then moved forward with implementation, beginning with scheduling and attending site visits with the nine organizations. We collected content in the form of photos, videos, and interviews which we then used to create each organization's story map. Lastly, we collected feedback before finalizing the story map collection.
Project Deliverable
For our project, we developed a Story Map that is able to represent each of the nine organizations in the Salinas Inclusive Economic Development Initiative. We worked with individuals and communities to form a bond with each other, working towards an inclusive economy together.
