VS-PG is committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our scientific community:
VS-PG coordinators are dedicated to having this seminar series represent the diversity of scientists in the Precambrian Geology community.
We WILL NOT TOLERATE DISCRIMINATION OF ANY KIND. This includes discrimination based on, but not limited to:
Gender (and gender identity and expression), sex, or sexual orientation
Race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion
Marital or parental status
Educational background or career stage
If any participant were to violate these expectations of respect towards others, we reserve the right to remove them from the seminar and ban them from future participation.
Seminar presentations and behavioral expectations
VS-PG presenters are given 40-50 minutes to present, which is followed by a Q&A session and subsequently an open discussion session. The discussion session is moderated by the coordinators to run as long as is deemed necessary for the topic to be discussed in depth. We see this as a useful constructive aspect of our platform. However, this means all participants must maintain a respectful discussion environment. For this reason, the coordinators will expect the following:
Discussion should be constructive and respectful. We will not tolerate harassment of any kind or behavior that may contribute to hostility towards any individual or group.
Coordinators may stop participants from displaying disprespectful attitudes, making inappropriate comments and/or unconstructive remarks, and initiating irrelevant discussion.
Participants may not record or take photos or videos of any individual present in the meeting room.
Participants will be muted until the presentation is finished and the floor is open for questions.
Your meeting ID should match your real name.
Questions can be asked by virtually raising your hand, typing a '*' into the chat, or typing your question into the chat. We will do our best to ensure that questions are asked in the order they are received.
Please only unmute yourself if you have been directed to ask your question.
Some participants may be more vocal than others for reasons relevant to their comfort level, scientific involvement, etc. Coordinators may interrupt or skip questions if there are multiple from the same person to ensure that we are able to hear from all who would like to participate. This should not be interpreted as any lack of appreciation for your participation. Our motive is to maintain and promote inclusivity.
Blatant and excessive promotion of one's own research by a participant (other than the speaker) during the discussion would not be appreciated and we reserve the right to interrupt and reorient discussion. Violators will be warned and may be asked to leave if they continue to disrespect this expectation.
All expectations mentioned herein are expected to be maintained vocally, in the Zoom chat, in online discussion, and under the comments on videos we post on our YouTube Chanel.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or notice misconduct or if you find that we have overlooked something in our organization of this seminar series please send an email to Alex (fkova001@ucr.edu) and Andrey (andreyb@ucr.edu) and we will address these issues immediately. We are open to all feedback, help, and suggestions.
Although we are coordinators, we consider this seminar a community effort. We may miss things at times and need your help to ensure that we are maintaining an appropriate and respectful environment that encourages the VS-PG community!
