CAUTION: THIS PILL IS NOT MEANT TO BE SWALLOWED.
Nitroglycerin is a small pill that you place under your tongue to dissolve if you get chest pain. If your mouth is dry, a drink of water can help to moisten the pill, but do not swallow it. You should sit down when you take your nitroglycerin, as it may make you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
Learn more about nitroglycerin by asking your health care provider. You can also learn more about nitroglycerin at https://www.uptodate.com/contents/chest-pain-beyond-the-basics#H8
If a person is having a heart attack, a number of treatments and tests will be performed. (See "Patient education: Heart attack (Beyond the Basics)".)
