Mathematical Pathways to an Excellent Future

A one-day event featuring:

1. A diverse set of expository mathematics lectures which cover a wide range of topics within mathematics, and which may be suitable for non-expert attendees.

2. A panel discussion on building a future with mathematics. Here, the speakers will talk about their own paths within mathematics and answer questions from the audience.

3. Posters from graduate and undergraduate students. Attendees are encouraged to bring their best work to display as posters at the event. There will be two prizes awarded for the best undergraduate posters, and two prizes awarded for the best graduate student posters. A panel of judges will choose first and second place winners, who will receive awards of $300 and $200, respectively.

4. A one-page essay competition about your own path within mathematics. This competition is an opportunity for attendees to write about their experiences and interests in mathematics, including any challenges or successes they have encountered along the way. The essays will be judged by a panel, and an award of $300 will be given to the best essay by an undergraduate student and the best essay by a graduate student. The panel of judges will select the winners. Send your submission to pgallard@ucr.edu. Attendance at a minimum of one talk is mandatory to be considered for the prize.

Funding: We have limited funding available to support local students with expenses such as gas (carpooling is strongly encouraged) and train tickets. Priority will be given to students who are presenting posters. For those students traveling from farther away, we may consider covering lodging expenses for up to two nights in a shared hotel room - provided no other funding is available.
