SRSI, a talent development program of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), is a holistic six-week summer internship experience for highly qualified grade 11 students in Saudi Arabia. Modeled after the internationally renowned MIT RSI, KAUST SRSI provides gifted young Saudis with the opportunity to engage in advanced STEM research in KAUST’s world-class facilities under the mentorship of internationally distinguished faculty and research scientists.
Working as an SRSI tutor is a truly unique and exciting opportunity. Tutors provide academic, research, and personal support to the grade 11 participants and provide vital assistance to the SRSI staff. Tutors reside on the beautiful KAUST campus, which is located on the Red Sea coast in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia (just one hour north of Jeddah). KAUST is an international community with members (students, staff, faculty, and families) from more than 105 countries around the world. Tutors will find themselves immersed in a culturally diverse and intellectually stimulating experience at KAUST.
SRSI tutors are typically graduate students, post-docs, research scientists, university professors and high school teachers, though the application is open to any person who qualifies. The summer 2019 SRSI program dates are June 14 – August 2, which includes a 3-day orientation/training for tutors and six weeks of program activities with the high school participants. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center in conjunction with the NYU School of Medicine is pleased to sponsor the Emergency Medicine Summer 2019 Medical Student Fellowship for Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine. The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to increasing diversity within the field of Emergency Medicine. The goal of the program is to provide the interested medical student with an in-depth exposure to Emergency Medicine early on in medical school education (students who have completed their first year of medical school).
We encourage underrepresented minorities who are interested in Emergency Medicine, currently in their first year of medical school, to apply to our 5-week (July 1 to August 2, 2019) Summer Fellowship. We are offering 5 funded positions, including housing and a stipend, to support medical students who are underrepresented minorities interested in the field of Emergency Medicine.
Meetings: Fellows will participate in procedure workshops, SIM sessions at our state-of-the-art SIM center, social medicine initiatives, ultrasound workshops, resident conference, journal club, lectures given by our faculty and residents, toxicology rounds, quality and safety conference, a meeting with representatives from the Office of Diversity Affairs, teaching sessions with high school students, and a Wilderness Medicine outing.
Clinical: Each student will be paired with an Emergency Medicine faculty preceptor as well as an Emergency Medicine resident preceptor whom he or she will shadow on various shifts throughout the fellowship. Students will be exposed to tremendous diversity in clinical pathology and patient populations by rotating through the different hospitals within our academic center, including our nationally ranked tertiary care center at NYU Langone Health, the country’s first public hospital at Bellevue, and NYU Brooklyn (a Level I Trauma Center and Stroke Center).
Project: Fellows will be paired with their Faculty Mentor who will advise them on their final scholarly project to be presented within the Emergency Medicine Department towards the culmination of their fellowship.

The UCLA Internal Medicine Residency Program is excited to invite 4th year students to apply to its Visiting Student Scholarship Program (VSSP). This program provides up to $2,500 in financial support for students with an interest in fostering workforce diversity in healthcare to complete an Internal Medicine inpatient sub-internship at UCLA. Students from groups underrepresented in medicine (UIM) are encouraged to apply and thereby experience UCLA's dynamic inpatient academic environment. The UCLA Department of Pediatrics Visiting Elective Scholarship Program (VESP) provides financial support to senior U.S. medical students who are traditionally underrepresented in medicine, and who are interested in applying to UCLA for a senior clinical elective. The goal of the program is to expose these traditionally underrepresented senior medical students from institutions outside of the Los Angeles region to an academic pediatrics program, and to promote student interest in applying to the Pediatrics Residency Training Program at UCLA.
Similar programs currently exist at UCSF, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, University of Washington and Harvard.

Each fall, California medical students, family medicine residents and faculty members converge in Los Angeles for CAFP’s annual Family Medicine Summit. The conference provides attendees with opportunities to develop leadership skills and legislative advocacy acumen and gain clinical knowledge. The California Residency Fair at the Summit is also an effective networking tool for medical students looking to launch careers in family medicine.
