ISPLORE Awards
On behalf of the ISPLORE president Pierdomenico Perata and the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee has decided that two Awards will be conferred at the next ISPLORE conference in Nagoya, Sept, 2025 :
1. An Award for meritorious and long-term contributions to the field will be named to honor Rens Voesenek (The Rens Voesenek Award) (For senior, established scientists)
2. An Award for recent outstanding contribution to the field (for early-career scientists). This is for a recent outstanding contribution to the science of plant aeration, flooding and low oxygen perception, response, tolerance at the molecular to ecosystem level.
Proposals for both Awards should be received by the Executive Secretary at least 2 months before each General Meeting. Proposals must be made and seconded by members of the Society and be accompanied by a written case in support of the candidate. The case should comprise
(i) all relevant personal details including each candidate’s full name, title and contact addresses,
(ii) a brief account of the candidate’s research contributions.
In conjunction with the International Advisory Panel, the Executive Committee will select one or exceptionally two or more candidate(s) in each round but may also choose not to select any candidate. Successful candidates will be invited by the President to attend the Society’s next International Conference, receive their Outstanding Scientist Award Certificate at the General Meeting and give a lecture.

Nomination
As a member of our society, you have the right to propose a candidate for the Outstanding Scientist or Honorary Membership awards. Nomination will open again in time before the coming ISPLORE conference in Japan, 2025. Each nomination should be accompanied by a letter of support as described below.
Outstanding Scientist Award: Conferred to individuals who have made either (i) a recent outstanding contribution to the science of plant aeration, flooding tolerance, or anoxia tolerance or (ii) meritorious and long-term contributions to this field. Proposals for the Outstanding Scientist Award should be received by the Executive Secretary at least 3 months before each General Meeting. Proposals must be made and seconded by members of the Society and be accompanied by a written case in support of the candidate. The case should comprise (i) all relevant personal details including each candidate’s full name, title, and contact addresses, (ii) confirmation that the candidate has agreed to his/her name being put forward, and (iii) a brief account of the candidate’s research contributions. In conjunction with the International Advisory Panel, the Executive Committee will select one or exceptionally two or more candidate(s) in each round but may also choose not to select any candidate. Successful candidates will be invited by the President to attend the Society’s 2022 International Conference, receive their Outstanding Scientist Award Certificate at the General Meeting, and give a lecture.
Honorary Membership: This is conferred by the Executive Committee on individuals who have shown outstanding leadership and service to the Society. The honor provides life membership with membership fees waived. Proposals for Honorary Membership should be received by the Executive Secretary at least 3 months before the next General Meeting. Proposals must be made and seconded by members of the Society and be accompanied by a written case in support of the candidate. The case should comprise (i) all relevant personal details including the candidate’s full name, title, and contact addresses, (ii) confirmation that the candidate has agreed to his/her name being put forward, and (iii) a brief account of the candidate’s service to the Society. In conjunction with the International Advisory Panel, the Executive Committee will select no more than one candidate in each round, but may also choose not to select any candidate. The Executive Committee can bestow Honorary Membership independently but must inform the Society’s General Meeting of the grounds for its decision. The successful candidate will be invited by the President or by the Executive Secretary to attend the Society’s next International Conference, receive their Honorary Membership Certificate at the General Meeting, and give a special lecture.
