I am an astronomer at UC Riverside studying the distant Universe. My research focuses on the diffuse matter in deep space known as the intergalactic medium (IGM), particularly as it evolves during the period of early cosmic history known as reionization.

Most of my research uses data from large telescopes such as Keck. I also collaborate closely with groups studying the IGM with numerical simulations.

I am currently the Graduate Advisor for the UCR Astronomy PhD program.

Background: I received my B.A. in Astronomy Physics from the University of Virginia in 1999 and my Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Caltech 2006. I held postdocs at Carnegie Observatories and the University of Cambridge and was a Staff Astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute before joining the UCR faculty in 2015.
