Find faculty websites through various department websites.
Read through their current research, what their students are researching, and review a few of their publications, paying attention not only to their most recent publications but also to their older ones to get a broad overview of the types of research done in the faculty's lab.
If their research interests you, send the faculty member an email introducing yourself, explaining your goals and interests, and describing what draws you to their research in explicit terms (do not just say because [insert study system/organism] is cool!). Please ensure that you attach your resume/CV.
Since the faculty member's funding may be limited, it can increase your chances of securing a research opportunity if you express interest in volunteering (on an unpaid basis). Only say this if you can afford to work for free! Unfortunately, research has many barriers for aspiring scientists.
If they don’t respond, don’t fret! Faculty are busy people. Send polite follow-up emails after a week or so.
If they have openings but are looking for students with specific skill sets, ask them how you can develop those skills. Being proactive is always looked at positively.
If they don’t have openings, send them an email thanking them for their time and keep looking.
Best of luck in your search!
