Welcome!
My name is Dr. Carlos O. Calderón. I am an Associate Professor of Teaching and the Director of the School Psychology PhD Program at the University of California, Riverside. I am a licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist.
My research advances culturally and linguistically responsive school psychology by examining how language, culture, and sociocultural context shape psychoeducational assessment and educational outcomes for bilingual and multilingual students. I also focus on cognition and measurement in school psychology, investigating the cognitive foundations of academic learning and improving the validity and equity of assessment and classification practices. My teaching is closely aligned with my research, integrating coursework in assessment, social psychology, and history and systems of psychology to examine the cognitive, cultural, and historical foundations of psychoeducational practice.
