Thank you for joining us this year and trekking through the cold. Tonight's program was partially created with the students in the choir as well as my own recommendations. We believe that we have created a program that we have enjoyed creating together. We hope that the music you will hear will help start your holiday season as well as a time for reflection. It has been a crazy year, but I think we have made it to the end. 

Your presence here tonight is a physical marker of your support in local music education as well as the support of the young lives on stage. When I was a kid, I remember always trying to find my parents in the audience and the joy that came with finally seeing them see me perform. Those small positive moments have helped me become the person I am today. So on behalf of the students, thank you for coming.

As the audience, you are an important part of the Sun Valley Choral Arts Programs. The audience's responsibility at formal concerts and performances is to honor the efforts of the performers by providing an attentive, listening atmosphere in which all can appreciate their performance.

To that end, we ask your cooperation:

• Please make sure all cell phones and electronic devices are turned off. Cell phones can interfere with wireless microphones and recording equipment, as well as create unwanted noise.

• Please do not take videos or flash photographs as they distract the performers from their efforts and pull the audience out of the artistic moment.

• While the performance is in progress, please remain seated and quiet. (If it becomes necessary to leave the auditorium, please do so between musical selections.)

• If very young children become restless and disrupt others ability to listen, please take them from the auditorium until they are quiet.

• Please do not hum or clap along with the performer, unless specifically invited to do so.

• Show your appreciation for the performance by clapping after each selection (Whistling and cheering are not appropriate at a formal concert.)

This year’s concert looks different, as the middle school choral program has unfortunately been eliminated and no longer exists. In my six years in the Valley, this is the first time we are unable to collaborate with the middle school choirs; a collaboration that has traditionally been where many of our singers first discovered their love for choral music. Their absence is deeply felt and underscores the vital importance of supporting music education at every grade level.

We encourage you to share with our middle school and district leaders how meaningful the choral arts are and how essential they are to the growth of our students and our community.
