All members of the Porter Ridge Chapter of the National Honor Society must complete three (3) hours of community service during the first five six-week grading periods, totaling fifteen (15) hours over the course of the year. Returning members must also complete a total of ten (10) hours over the summer.
These service hours are to be completed outside of the school day and may not be for immediate family members. Hours must be completed during the grading period for which they are required. For example, if a student misses school because they have participated in Special Olympics or an event at Walter Bickett Elementary School or anything of the like during the school day or if a student babysits their siblings for their parents, these hours will not count towards the 15 hours for NHS. Acceptable community service projects for NHS include but are not limited to volunteering at your church, tutoring, assisting an elderly neighbor with yard work where you do not receive monetary compensation, etc. Service hours may not be completed for both NHS and another club/class on campus. Service hours must be solely for NHS. If you ever question if the service project is acceptable towards your NHS hours, please ask prior to the due date!
See the "Important Dates" tab for service hour due dates.
Students who do not complete and submit a report of hours completed by the deadline will be placed on probation. Missing two deadlines will result in dismissal from the NHS Chapter.
