Joining Band

What is band?

Band is a related arts class that meets every day during the school day. Any rising 6th grader can join band, but participation in 6th grade band is a prerequisite for 7th and 8th grade band. Participating in band has a lot of benefits. College admissions officers have stated that students who participate in music classes, especially ensemble classes like band, have a clear advantage over other students in the application process. I have had numerous students earn college scholarships to play in band, even though they are majoring in something other than music. But more than that, band is like a family. Lifelong friendships form in band, and it is a great way to give your student a safe place to belong in middle and high school.

2024 6th Grade Band Information Meeting and Rental Night

Please join us on April 25 at 6:30 in the PWMS Cafeteria for more information on the band program. We will explain what band is about, allow students to test play instruments, discuss instrument rental, and answer any questions you have. 

Why Band?

"One day at a time my daughter has learned how to read and play music. Her growth in two years is incredible.  I   also love that she has opportunities to take what she has learned and help the younger students.
