About the Band

Parkwood Middle School has three bands: Beginning (6th grade), Intermediate (7th grade), and Advanced (8th grade). The band perform throughout the year at school concerts, MPA (music performance adjudication), and solo/ensemble MPA. Members in the 7th and 8th grade band may audition for All District Band and participate in All County Band. Select 8th graders are invited to participate in marching band.

Meet the Directors:

Mrs. Angela Lachenmayr

Angela Lachenmayr has been the band director at Parkwood Middle School since 2018. She began her teaching career in 2010 in Cape Girardeau, MO, and throughout her career she has taught band, choir, orchestra, and general music. Her ensembles have won numerous honors including marching band awards, high ratings at Concert Band MPA, and a performance at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference. Mrs. Lachenmayr is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, the National Association for Music Education, North Carolina Music Educators Conference, South Central District Band Directors Association, and Union County Bandmasters Association.

Mrs. Lachenmayr graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and in 2009 with a Masters of Arts in Music Education. She studied clarinet with Dr. Jesse Krebs and performed with the Truman State Wind Symphony, Marching Statesmen, and Clarinet Choir.

Mrs. Lachenmayr lives in Monroe with her husband and two children. She enjoys running, triathlons, and spending time with her family.

Mr. Jon Sale

Jon Sale was named the band director at Parkwood High School in 2018. Prior to this, he served as the band director at Parkwood Middle School for five years. His bands at Parkwood Middle School consistently received high ratings at Concert Band MPA events. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Union County Bandmasters Association, and has been a member of the Parkwood Middle School and Parkwood High School Site based management teams.

Mr. Sale graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 2013 from Western Carolina University with an undergraduate degree in Music Education. While attending WCU, Mr. Sale was involved with many of the performing ensembles on campus, and won both of the Student Solo Competitions at WCU. He was also a Staff Coordinator for the Sudler Award winning "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Music Education at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro.

Outside of teaching, Mr. Sale has served as a marching band judge at competitions across North Carolina. He is also a well respected trombonist and has performed with many ensembles across North Carolina. He currently performs with the Wingate University Wind Ensemble and serves as a substitute for the Union Symphony Orchestra. Also interested in Vocal Music, he has performed with Shades of Purple--an all male, a capella ensemble at WCU--and the Asheville Symphony Chorus.

Mr. Sale is a member of the National Association for Music Education, North Carolina Music Educators Association, South Central District Bandmasters Association, Union County Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. He lives in Indian Trail, NC, with his wife, Emily; son, Marshall; and dog, Charlie. He is a native of Bryson City, NC, where his parents and siblings still reside. In his spare time, Mr. Sale enjoys traveling, hiking, watching good movies, playing bad golf, and spending time with his family.
