Though many people associate turbans with middle eastern peoples, they are a form of clothing worn by many people. The stereotypical Native American headdress is something that Cherokees have never worn. In Sequoyah's time, raditional Cherokee men wore turbans (Perdue, "Race and Culture" 714). Turbans are still worn by Cherokee men when they participate in traditional cultural events.
