Visit to the UCM Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology of America
The Museum of American Archaeology and Ethnology (Museo de Arqueología y Etnología de América) is housed in the Faculty of Geography and History (Building B, basement). It features rich collections of archaeological, ethnographic, folk art, osteological, malacological and environmental materials from a variety of American cultures — both past and present.
Founded in the 1960s originally for educational use by the Department of American History, the museum has grown through archaeological missions, research projects, and generous donations. It currently preserves between 1,000 and 1,500 objects, including significant projects such as Chinchero (Peru), Incapirca, Esmeraldas, and Manabí Central.

Inaugurated in 1951, UCM's Museum of Hispanic Pharmacy houses one of the most comprehensive collections related to pharmaceutical practice, teaching, and the history of medicine in Spain. Its displays include centuries-old ceramic jars, mortars, and hand-painted wooden boxes once used to prepare, preserve, and dispense medicines. Visitors can also explore five historical pharmacies rescued and reassembled within the museum (such as the baroque pharmacy of the Hospital of San Juan Bautista in Astorga, a neo-Gothic 19th-century pharmacy from Madrid, and the historic apothecaries of Sangarcía and Valladolid), along with three recreated settings: an alchemist’s laboratory, an Arab apothecary, and the pharmacy of the Hospital of San Juan de las Afueras in Toledo.

Established in 2001, the Complutense Historical Library Marqués de Valdecilla centralizes and preserves collections of manuscripts and all printed works deposited in the different faculties and schools of the Complutense University that were published before 1800. It is worth noting that it is located in a central area of the city, on Noviciado Street, which also houses the Complutense Paraninfo, undergoing renovation during the dates of our General Assembly. It is the second-largest library in Madrid in terms of pre-19th-century books, after the National Library, and is undoubtedly among the five most important libraries in Spain. Its bibliographic collection includes around 6,000 manuscripts, 741 incunabula, and nearly 100,000 printed works from the 16th to 18th centuries.

The Museum of Costume - Ethnologic Heritage Research Center (Museo del Traje - CIPA), part of Spain’s Ministry of Culture, is located in UCM's Ciudad Universitaria Campus and is truly unique in its field. Its collections include historical clothing from the 16th to 19th centuries, as well as an impressive array of 20th-century fashion, featuring pieces by Mariano Fortuny, the legendary Balenciaga, Manuel Pertegaz, Elio Berhanyer, Paco Rabanne, and a selection of Spain’s most prominent contemporary designers. Among the museum’s treasures are also some of the dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, all designed by Hubert de Givenchy.
In addition, the museum preserves significant collections of traditional folk costumes, as well as jewelry and fashion accessories.
