The cross-curricular Honor Summer Assignments for ELA, Science, and Social Studies are designed to:
provide pre-test data to show teachers what skills students have acquired from previous instruction;
engage students in learning activities that will appeal to their interests, help them practice previously acquired skills, and introduce texts and concepts that will be discussed and expanded upon throughout the beginning units of the next school year;
enrich students learning experience by forcing them to dig deep into the content by accessing varied, rich, and powerful texts (including primary and historical documents) to help them:
transfer skills and concepts across courses/contents
practice reading and analyzing skills
practice writing skills
prepare to engage in thought-provoking, collegial discussions with classmates
All students scheduled to take honor/Advanced Placement/Dual Credit courses in the 2024-2025 school year are expected to complete the assigned summer assignment, and to have it completed by the first day of school, August 19, 2024.
