Participating in Castillo's seminar heightened my awareness of wellness practices through her circle discussions and daily journal entries, which served as prompts and encouragement to maintain my own well-being routines at home.
I realize that every time I feel stressed, my self-care is the first thing I lose priority over. For me, self-care can be as complicated as making a healthy meal for myself and as simple as going to bed early. Recently, I have been doing a multi-step skincare routine every night before I go to bed. While I’m putting on a face mask, I also turn on some soft piano music to ease all my stress and help me temporarily escape from the busy world, helping me to stop worrying about all the tasks I need to complete. Doing a nighttime skincare routine helps me take care of myself better since it helps me relax and clear my mind.
One of my all-time favorite self-care activities is doing yoga. Yoga supports my physical health and promotes emotional well-being, helping me manage my stress and enhance my quality of life. I believe that yoga encourages mindfulness since it involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. I feel like it helps to increase my mental clarity and concentration, helping to reduce cognitive stress and enhance productivity. Also, techniques used in yoga, such as controlled breathing (pranayama) and meditation, help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. On weekends, I often do yoga at home in the morning right after I get up from bed. I like to follow Jessica Richburg’s YouTube videos to do yoga so that I can do the movement correctly and follow at a good pace. It not only releases any pain that I have, such as back and neck pain but also starts my day off with a relaxing and happy start.
When I feel stressed, I sometimes listen to Kpop music and even dance along with it. Listening to K-pop music makes me feel happy and forget all the things that bother me at that moment, and dancing also helps me release stress. I often like to do K-pop random dance play. As my body moves along with the rhythm and beats of the music, I can feel more energy coming out of my body and become more energetic and excited.
I think that well-being is about way more than just keeping fit. It has to do with your body, mind, and spirit being in good shape. It's about mixing things up right to stay healthy overall. Your own actions matter a lot, but so do things like your friends, money situation, and where you live. Being healthy can make you happier, feel more free, and able to do things on your own. I think that feeling good health-wise means you're more likely to be happy and independent.
When assessing your health or well-being, you need to consider all the different aspects of well-being and see what's working and what could be improved. Wanting to get better might mean doing more exercise, eating better, relaxing and clearing your mind, or helping out in your community to feel more connected.
I believe that staying healthy means taking care of your body, mind, and soul and remembering that what we do, where we live, and our social circles all play a big part in our happiness and health.
