The UCI Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation is excited to host the Examining STEM Transfer Pathways Conference, a convening of two- and four-year institutions with the goal of broadening participation in STEM through the establishment of novel collaborative research partnerships related to transfer student success. This conference is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF HRD 2210997).
Conference Goals: One means to diversify STEM fields is by increasing the number of STEM degrees awarded to students who begin their college career at two-year institutions. The Examining STEM Transfer Pathways Conference aims to facilitate and foster the success of collaborative campus research communities (CRC) consisting of individuals from two- and four-year Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). These CRCs, consisting of institutional administrators, STEM faculty, institutional research staff, and faculty/staff involved in transfer student success, will focus on examining and evaluating the efficacy of strategies to support STEM transfer pathways at their home campuses.
Specifically, the conference goals include:
1. Leveraging institutional data to determine the degree to which a participating campus’ STEM students achieve transfer success.
2. Expanding the definition of transfer pathway success by collectively identifying a set of student socialization outcomes and validated instruments that participants can use to measure them.
3. Evaluating the effectiveness of a transfer support structure at each participating campus through both academic and student socialization outcomes.
