Piece 1: "Johann Brahms: Intermezzo Op. 118 No. 2"
by Isabella Cao
Artist Statement: This was filmed during a masterclass, so I was kind of nervous. However, this piece portrays a deep sadness yet happiness, melancholy yet warmth, and yearning yet being at home. Only the ending will tell us if it was all resolved.
Piece 2: "The Gardener Nurtures and the Flower Blooms"
(Mixed media/collage)
by Morgan Grimes
The text boxes read from top to bottom:
“The sunlight shining each and every day. Rising in the morning with the promise of tomorrow.”
“The support of the stake, bearing the weight day after day. Unwavering after all this time.”
“The nutrient rich soil, offering up exactly the right mixture. Keeping the leaves green and the petals bright. Always more to give.”
“The foundation of the pot. Providing warmth, security, a place to call home. A place to grow and flourish.”
Artist Statement: This piece explores the incredible support and tireless effort of those that work in the healthcare system. Utilizing the metaphor of a flower needing just the right conditions to grow; a pot to hold the soil, extensive nutrients, the support of a stake, and the energy of the sun, this piece illuminates the many ways in which the healthcare system allows us to grow and flourish. As someone who has experienced a decade of chronic pain, I have seen both the negative and positive side of patient care. It is important that we recognize the unwavering compassion and effort of those that have dedicated their lives to providing top quality care to those in need, and I hope this piece helps to showcase that recognition and thanks
