DOCUMENTATION OF LEARNING
Seeking a Certificate of PD Completion or College Units?
If you will be accruing 8 or more hours of professional learning, consider applying for a Certificate of Completion and/or Continuing Education Units. Below are some frequently asked questions about obtaining either of these options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a Certificate of Completion and DCE Units?
Both a certificate and units would serve as documentation of your professional learning.
A certificate is provided, free of charge, with the submission of your Log of Participation (see below)
You can obtain a certificate for 10-hours or 20-hours of professional learning.
DCE Units are available for purchase on the Registration Form and requires a Log of Participation (see below)
Accrue 25 hours of professional learning and provide documentations for each workshop you attend. (see below)
You will earn 2.5 Continuing Education units from UCI's Division of Continuing Education (DCE).
The cost of 2.5 Continuing Education Units is $150 (subject to change according to DCE guidelines and regulations)
Certificate of PD Completion
What are the benefits?
Obtaining a Certificate of PD Completion is a great way to document your professional learning outside of your school or district. It not only provides documentation for your resume listings, but some districts honor these certificates towards salary credits and/or classifications. To find out if certificates of professional development are recognized by your district, contact your department of human resources.
What do I need to do?
Complete this Log of Participation as you participate in the course(s)
As you attend sessions and workshops, you can accrue and earn a 10-hour certificate or a 20-hour certificate.
Both live and asynchronous PLOs qualify towards earning your certificate.
Produce Documentation of Learning for each course.
This could be your creation of a syllabus, a unit plan, a lesson, a reflection of learning, etc.
Once you have completed that assignment, link it in the appropriate cell on the Log of Participation.
Remember to allow viewing access to all of your linked Documentations of Learning for expedited processing.
Once completed, please email Naehee Kwun nkwun@uci.edu a link of your Log of Participation.
University Continuing Education Units
What are the benefits?
Earning Units will help you move to the next salary classification, which is determined by college degrees and units earned. All districts recognize college units and will need official transcripts from the college or university for verification.
What do I need to do?
Purchase your units through the Marketplace when you register for Extravapalooza.
You will be emailed a detailed syllabus.
Complete and submit the Log of Participation.
Both live and asynchronous PLOs qualify towards earning your Continuing Education units.
Remember to allow viewing access to all of your linked Documentations of Learning for expedited processing.
What is the Log of Participation?
The Log of Participation is a document to record your attendance and documentation of learning.
It is required in order to obtain both the Certificate or DCE Units.
What is "Documentation of Learning"?
Each course you attend will prompt you to produce Documentation of Learning. This could be your creation of a syllabus, a unit plan, a lesson, a reflection of learning, etc. It will depend on the objectives and outcomes of the course you attend.
Once you have completed the assignment, allow viewing access and then link it in the appropriate cell on the Log of Participation.

$50 Registration for participants not affiliated with UCI.

When you register, you will have access to all open courses and book clubs.
Design your own learning package by participating in as many open courses and book clubs we offer.
Please note, some courses are available for CalTeach students only.
Where do I register and purchase DCE units?
You can purchase DCE units for $250, through the registration link.
What happens after I register?
Once your registration is complete, you will receive an email with zoom links for virtual courses and links to the resource folders.
You may also receive emails from the facilitators providing other information and resources.
