SUMMER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ACADEMY PROVIDED FOR THE UCI EDUCATORS COMMUNITY
LEARNING BETTER, TOGETHER
How are committed educators improving their instruction to address inequities,
in the classroom and beyond?
We believe that education is our tool for impacting the world we live in. It is also the tool our students will need to improve the world they are inheriting. As educators, it is our professional and civic duty to innovate our practices so we can prepare our students to fight injustices and build a more just world.
Our goal for the Extravapalooza is to support educators on their transformative journey of cultivating a more just classroom and beyond. Extravapalooza was created for educators seeking pedagogical shifts in their practice and support from fellow educators.
Join us as we reflect on and refine our pedagogical beliefs and instructional practices as they relate to equity, particularly in the STEM classroom. We are proud to partner with experts and experienced educators from across the country to provide you with our curated collection of literature, sessions, and workshops.
However you choose to participate, we hope our summer academy provides you with resourcefulness and empowerment. We look forward to learning better, together with you.

What's the difference between a session and a workshop?
One stand-alone session typically lasts about 2-3 hours.
They will be a facilitation of pre-determined content.
Some of our Professional Learning Opportunities (PLOs) are a single session that may be offered more than once. See details below.
Workshops are DEEP DIVE learning opportunities, following our 2-2-2 model.
Each workshop comprises of 3-4 sessions that meet synchronously for 2 hours, 2 times a week, for 2 weeks.
Over the course of these 6-8 hours, facilitators will cater their support to the needs of their participants, giving you the opportunity to implement what you are learning right away.
Each workshop differs in what they offer and how the sessions are structured. However, across all of our workshops, facilitators will guide you through identity-centered community builders, modeling of practices, and support you in the creation of your own action steps and/or lesson plans.
All workshops and sessions are offered virtually and synchronously.
The only exception is the workshop offered by OCHR: Everyday Restorative Practices. See details below.
See how the workshops and sessions lay out across the weeks and fit into your schedule.
Workshops and sessions are staggered across dates and times, so you don't have to choose!
Attend one, attend them all :)
