Seeking a Certificate of PD Completion or College Credits?
Wow, all of the Professional Learning Opportunities offered look amazing, right?!
Well, if you are attending more than one and will be accruing 10 or more hours of professional learning, please consider applying for a Certificate of Completion and/or College Credits! Below are some frequently asked questions about obtaining either of these options.
Here are some acronyms that you might see:
PLO = Professional Learning Opportunity (sessions, workshops, videos, books, etc)
PD = Professional Development (more general term for teacher's professional development, including trainings, meetings, conferences, etc)
DCE = Division of Continuing Education
What's the difference between a Certificate of Completion and College Credits?
Both a certificate and credits would serve as documentation of your professional learning.
A certificate is provided, free of charge, with the submission of your Log of Participation, which includes Documentation of Learning.
You can obtain a certificate for 10-hours or 20-hours of professional learning.
University Continuing Education Units are available through UCI's Division of Continuing Education (DCE) and will also require the submission of your Log of Participation, which includes your documentations of learning.
You will be required to accrue 25 hours of professional learning and provide documentations for each workshop you attend.
You will earn 2.5 Continuing Education units.
The cost of 2.5 Continuing Education Units is $150 (subject to change according to DCE guidelines and regulations)
What are the benefits of obtaining a Certificate of PD Completion?

It not only provides documentation for your resume listings, but some districts honor these certificates towards salary credits and/or classifications. To find out if certificates of professional development are recognized by your district, contact your department of human resources.
