Created by Victor Ochoa, the 8th anniversary Chicano Park poster centers on the Aztec/Mayan-inspired kiosk that had been recently added to the center of the park. This structure serves as the central point for events and gatherings making it quite literally the park’s “heart”, as the poster claims. The 'Kiosko' was designed by architect Alfredo Larrin in a style reminiscent of Aztec and Mayan architecture and painted by muralists Vargas, Aguirre and Adame. The ceiling mural illustrates the foundation myth of Tenochtitlan/Mexico City.
This Voz article is a recap of the 8th Chicano Park Day celebration. Notably, the article cites "Corky" Gonzalez as a key guest speaker. Corky emphasizes self-determination as central to the struggle for Chicano liberation.
