Description

The One-Round Wonder was our first venture into the world of combat robotics. The One-Round Wonder was a 1lb robot that was completed in Fall 2023 and experienced its first competition in Winter 2024. Designed as a two-wheeled robot equipped with a vertical spinner, it used its slanted front to lift other competitors to hit it with its weapon. However, mobility issues pivoted the robot into a more defensive playstyle. Despite its namesake, The One-Round Wonder managed to win multiple rounds before being retired after sustaining significant damage.

Design

Constructed entirely from 3D-printed PLA parts, The One-Round Wonder came together as a somewhat unconventional but resilient robot. It went through several different iterations before its design was finalized. The weight distribution between the chassis and weapon, and the focus on fewer parts gave One-Round Wonder a greater durability than most other competitors.. Though its hammer-shaped vertical spinner was intended as the primary weapon, the bot's true standout feature was its sturdiness.
