Our applications for the Lightweight projects open in Fall 2025
Early Recruitment
Join us during AIF (Anteater Involvement Fair), ZOTBotics' Makerfaire, and more events to learn more about ACE and how to get involved!
1st General Meeting
New members will spend the first few weeks getting to know each other, participating in fun social activities, and begin initial designs for their lightweight combat robot!
Preliminary Design Review (PDR)
Members will be assigned their mentors and introduce ideas and designs for their combat robot to the entire team.
Critical Design Review (CDR)
After polishing CAD designs, making improvements, and finalizing your physical robot, you and your team get to present all your hard work to the entire team to prepare for competition. You will start the final iterations and start testing your robots!
UCI Antweight Assault
After completing your robot, you can finally put it up to the test in our own arena against your fellow UCI teams at ACE@UCI's Antweight Assault competition!
Heavyweight Team
After completing your Lightweight project, you qualify to apply for the Heavyweight subteam! Applications will open at this time.Â
Newbie Graduation
Now that you completed your own combat robot. It's time to compete to represent UCI Anteater Engineering. Expand to higher weight classes, or improve on your robot as we spend the rest of the year developing more advanced robots!
Do I need prior experience to join?
We pride ourselves on being one of the only UCI engineering projects open to everyone, regardless of experience. Members will first undergo training, developing their first 1lb battlebot in the fall, and can then continue improving their robot or join the Heavyweight team in the following quarter.
Are there fees?
There are no required fees to join ACE. The only fees that will be charged are the materials needed to make your robot. Fees are split among team members. Teams are usually 2-3 people per.
Does ACE offer class credits?
We offer MAE 93 and MAE 198 class credits for our Heavyweight Team. Keep an eye out when Heavyweight recruitment opens!
How much time do I need to commit to the team?
ACE members will be expected to commit at least 4 hours per week to ACE-related activities and events for the Lightweight Team. Though not required, developing a battlebot takes time, so it will be best to spend as much time with your robot as you can to see it succeed at competitions!
