About

Working at VPLab (UTFSM),

I have a B.Sc. degree in acoustical engineering (2001) from Universidad Tecnológica Vicente Pérez Rosales in Santiago, Chile, and a Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering (2018) from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), Valparaiso, Chile. From 2008 to 2017, I was with the Department of Music and Sonology, Faculty of Arts at Universidad de Chile, as a lecturer in Electroacoustics and Digital Signal Processing. I am now with the recently (2017) created Departamento de Sonido at the same faculty. I have been honored with two ANID Grants (2021-23 and 2024-27), a CONICYT scholarship for Doctoral Studies (2012-2016), and a DGIP internship scholarship from UTFSM (2015), among other awards and honors. In 2015, I was a visiting researcher at the Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH Voice Center), Boston, USA. My research focuses on studying the human voice in the context of voice pathologies using signal processing, voice modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning algorithms. Since 2012, I have been collaborating in the development of the Voice Health Monitor (VHM) device, a daily-use ambulatory monitoring device based on smartphone technology and a neck skin accelerometer, with researchers from UTFSM, Harvard University, and CSAIL MIT, under the MISTI-Chile initiative and CONICYT funds. Also, I was a research fellow at The Vocal Hyperfunction Clinical Research Center (VHCRC) between 2017 and 2022, and I am a faculty member at Voice Production Laboratory (VPLab) UTSFM.

Since 2021, I have been the Director of The Voice Research Laboratory (VoiceLAB-DSON), a scientific laboratory funded by FONDECYT - ANID, Chile.
