2024 Summer Research Assistantships for Undergraduate Economics Students
Guidance for Faculty Sponsors
The Becker Friedman Institute for Economics (BFI) seeks to place UChicago undergraduate students studying economics, broadly defined, in substantive summer research assistantships with faculty to advance their development as researchers. BFI provides funding for UChicago students selected for these assistantships through a variety of ways, namely the Kapani and Brickell Metcalf internship programs, as well as through limited funding made available through BFI.
If you are interested in applying for funding to hire a 2024 summer research assistant, please fill out this form or send a proposal (no more than one page) by December 3, 2023, to bfisummer@uchicago.edu with the following information:
Proposed scope of work or research project that can reasonably be accomplished in a 10-week (average) window in 400 cumulative hours, including proposed start and end dates
Specific economic training or skills (such as STATA programming) required for the position
The designated supervisor, their title, and office or department
Whether you have a specific student in mind or would like to solicit applications
Any other information that would be relevant in selecting a successful candidate
Faculty will be notified December 15, 2023, if their application has been accepted. Positions will be posted to UChicago’s student job boards. BFI will collect applications on behalf of faculty and will share compiled resumes with faculty for consideration.
