The BFI Faculty Awards & Recognition Network supports UChicago affiliates in the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, Booth School of Business, Law School, Harris School of Public Policy, and other researchers across campus in promoting colleagues and themselves for awards, prizes, and scholarships in economics throughout their careers.
The consortium's focus is early-career recognition, where UChicago's gap against peer institutions is concentrated. Some of these awards require a nomination that BFI will coordinate and submit. Other awards and honors are decided inside closed committees, where BFI can facilitate connections between current members and qualified faculty, and support recognition. However, BFI cannot submit a nomination for these closed nomination awards and honors.
These awards require a nomination letter, an endorsement, or a departmental letter. UChicago faculty nominate either themselves or a colleague. BFI identifies whether the nominated faculty is eligible, secures endorsements, assembles the package, and submits it.
These awards and honors are decided by program directors, selection committees, and electoral colleges with no external submissions. BFI cannot nominate, but the people who can are often UChicago colleagues. BFI facilitates connections to increase chances of faculty winning the award or honor.
