Mary Cassatt is a French Impressionist who painted almost exclusively mothers and their children. She was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Paris. Later in her adulthood she returned to Philadelphia, but could not sell her paintings in the US. Edgar Degas was an artist whom she had studied and they became good friends. At the end of her life she became blind and could no longer paint. What kind of mood do these painting provide the viewer?
