Dragons are the theme this week! Using the principles of Art & Design, I want you to draw a dragon with these ideas in mind: Line, Shape, Space, Color, Texture, Form and Value. Select three of these principles to focus on.
Remember, we all don't have the same materials so work with what you have.
Below is a video for you to follow along ...Or you can just watch this and draw any kind of Dragon you can imagine. Think about the environment too...Does it live atop a mountain in a nest? You decide.
Below is a lesson on Wayne Thieboud. This is an artist you will enjoy. Watch the video on Wayne and decide on on some treats to draw. Next, I want you to try to draw the layered cakes and pies and in the bakery. These all begin with an oval. Decorate the cakes differently. Add a variety of lines for texture design. The principles of art you will be focusing on are Shape, Line, Color and Space. How might these treats be displayed in a bakery window? Design that composition in your head before drawing it on paper. I cannot wait to see these sweet treats! I will be making one for you too!
Super Fun Cartooning project. See my drawing of cartoon foods? I I pulled different shaped food containers from my pantry and refrigerator. I drew the shapes of these containers across the bottom of my page. Then I added their caps and tops. Now I want you to try and think of faces and personalities that will pair well with the foods you have drawn. Try to think about the curve of the eyebrows and mouth with smiling, anger, sadness, scared...Watch the video before you begin.

JUST SOME VIDEOS FOR EXTRA ART FUN!
It's Spring! Lets think of our favorite springtime animals...mine is a Bunny! I can draw a bunny by first thinking of the shapes that would make up a bunny. A large oval for the body. a smaller circle for the head. As I add details to the bunny, I will think of the shapes and draw them with my finger BEFORE I actually draw them. After I draw this bunny and maybe some grass, flowers or additional detail, I would like for you to practice a different kind of drawing. "Continuous Line Drawings" see the video!
Hi First Grade! If you go to this website storylineonline.net and scroll to the New Books there is a great book about a Dragon at the beach...When a Dragon Moves In. Listen to that book and then let's make a castle drawing. When you draw this castle, you will need paper, a pencil, eraser and some tracers in the shapes of rectangles, squares and triangles. Remember that castles are built of stones and bricks...can you add this texture to your drawing? Add flags too. See the 'Castle Video' at

The book Arnie the Doughnut is available to listen to a read aloud on Storylineonline.net
This s a funny book that will make you think of your favorite breakfast treats. As you listen get some paper and crayons to draw along. My favorite breakfast treats are Doughnuts, Pop-Tarts, Pancakes and Waffles. Can you draw the shape of each of these treats? Draw each shape about the size of the palm of your hand or even BIGGER! A rectangle for my Pop-Tart, a square for my waffle, a circle for my Pancake and a Circle with a smaller circle in the middle for my doughnut. Use crayons or whatever materials you have to draw the icing and sprinkles or the toppings of your choice onto the treats. The waffle lines are crosshatch. Try that! Lines left to right and lines top to bottom. Whats on your pancake? Berries? Chocolate chips? See the doughnut art video below!
