Each year more than three million kids achieve success with the Handwriting Without Tears (HWOT) curriculum. With over forty years of experience combined with research and best practices, HWOT strives to make handwriting easy to teach and easy to learn. UCDS has created instructional handwriting videos for students to practice their letters and numbers this summer. Ensuring your child is putting pencil to paper will help them become writers.
Why pencil versus pens or colored markers? Moving a pencil on paper, rather than a pen or marker, provides a bit more drag, which creates muscle memory. A tripod pencil grip, using a helper hand to position paper, and good upright posture are all important parts of handwriting. Iif students practice their letters and numbers with the videos that's a fantastic start!
Finally let the kids make it fun...practice writing with their "finger pencil" in the air, on their arm, in the sand, flour or water, or just simply write with pencils in bright colors. The sky's the limit.
We suggest rather than practicing capital and lowercase letters based on their order in the alphabet, please practice in the order listed below.
