Dear 1-2 Families-
This week, we start our WAVE goodbye to our students and families. This week we have compiled a list of resources under the areas of Theme, Writing, Math, Reading and Just for Fun. You can utilize both old and new materials and projects in each of these areas.
Theme - Theme Projects
Writing - Collected Writing Sheets, Handwriting
Math - Collected Math Vitamins, Math Facts
Reading - Summer Reading List, Reading Resources
Just for Fun - Just for Fun Resources
We also encourage families to look over our compiled list of resources about social injustices, anti-racism, and white supremacy on our Social Justice and Diversity webpage. We have recorded ourselves reading a few of the age appropriate titles for you to listen and discuss with your student.
Thank you so much for your partnership throughout the year and we wish you all a healthy and happy summer!
All the best,
The 1-2 teaching team
The Schedule
All 1-2 Learning Circles (Math Vitamin/Theme/Writer’s Workshop) - Teachers will deliver instruction for specific lessons via Zoom meeting format. Your child will be able to see live presentations by teachers to help them begin assignments or work through aspects of ongoing projects. The time on the schedule is listed for half an hour. Direct instruction times will vary from 15-20 mins on average, but having the whole time blocked out gives the flexibility for the subject and the lesson. Each learning circle has two sessions delivering the same content, one after the other. Please choose one to attend.
Literature Groups Your child will also be a part of smaller group Literature discussions. These sessions are where teachers will be leading a discussion about the chapter(s) read. Be sure to complete the reading before your Lit Groups meet. Please check the schedule to see which group your child is assigned to for Lit Groups; it will be listed on the class schedule.
Community Connection/Nikkei Manor - Each week, log on for live projects and content. Correlating materials are found on the distance learning site. Community Connections continues to be a first grade curriculum, while Nikkei Manor is designed for our second graders. Log on accordingly.
Specialists - Each week the 1/2s will be connected with rotating Specialists. They will provide live events for your child to attend as well as curriculum that adds to and enhances the ongoing work from the classroom.
Class Meeting, Social Snacks and Just For Kids Office Hours - These will continue and are now on a set schedule.
Investigation- Join Friday-igations and connect with new and familiar friends while sharing an activity together. Each Friday from 10-10:45am, we will open up 3 zoom rooms: Art, Build, and Move. Your child will have access to all three activities so you can pop in and out as you need to. Teachers will be in each zoom room ready to facilitate our time together.
