plan for instructional continuity

... instruction will be offered through remote means, such as web conferencing (e.g., Zoom), lecture capture, Canvas tools and other methods.”

We support you in ‘rapid prototyping’ (aka flying by the seat of your pants and making changes if things don’t work out) and in erring on the side of compassion. Be flexible and allow students multiple ways to learn the material and demonstrate their learning. Keep in mind that many of our students come from low-income backgrounds, so they may need to use a smartphone rather than a computer, may not have home Internet, may not have a private room for testing, may not be able to attend class in real time, etc.

Shared Materials (e.g., recordings and slides from training meetings)

Campus resources: Keep Teaching

Approximately match the weekly contact + prep hours

Use Canvas announcements and Canvas calendar. Include caveats on your syllabus

Give synchronous lectures or discussion sections over Zoom

Schedule Zoom meetings; use waiting room or arrange individual Zoom sessions when privacy is necessary

Use Canvas quizzes or other assignments for low-stakes assessments.
Reduce reliance on high-stakes exams.

Be mindful not to increase TA workload.
