Throughout my journey in developing the Transfer Mentorship Program, I have gained valuable insights and experiences that have shaped my professional and academic development.
Looking back, there are certain aspects of the project that I would consider changing. For instance, I would allocate more time for conducting additional research on effective pedagogy and practices to enhance the curriculum further. Additionally, I would seek more diverse perspectives by collaborating with a wider range of stakeholders, including transfer students themselves, to ensure the program is tailored to their specific needs and preferences.
On the other hand, there are elements of the project that I would unquestionably keep. The thorough literature search and review were pivotal in establishing a strong foundation for the program. The purpose statement, milestones, and session topics created during the synthesis stage provided a clear roadmap and structure for the program's implementation. These components have proven to be effective in addressing the challenges faced by transfer students and fostering their successful integration into the university environment.
Professionally, this project has allowed me to develop essential leadership and project management skills. It has strengthened my ability to conduct in-depth research, synthesize information, and design impactful educational initiatives. Moreover, the experience of presenting at the URSCA Conference has sharpened my communication and public speaking abilities, while also expanding my network within the academic community. These skills and experiences will undoubtedly contribute to my future career as a Community College Counselor, enabling me to better support transfer students and advocate for their success.
From my perspective, I would highly recommend this project to other students. It provides a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of transfer students and contribute to the field of higher education. Engaging in a project of this nature fosters critical thinking, creativity, and empathy while building essential skills that are transferable to various professional and academic contexts. It is an enriching experience that not only benefits the target audience but also empowers the student to become an agent of change within their community.
