About the Researcher

Positionality Statement

Alyssa Rowe is a second year sociology major with an emphasis in law and society at the University of California, Davis. Her professional and academic interests focus on studying criminality within society, specifically focusing on its underlying causes, how it's viewed, and how it's perpetuated. She is passionate about advancing her knowledge on social justice issues and advocating for change. In pursuing that passion, Alyssa attends a weekly learning and discussion group led by two graduate students at UCD, in which they engage in intellectually stimulating conversations guided by reading materials. As a research assistant, she studies mass incarceration in the United States with a specific focus on the War on Drugs and Crime. She strongly believes that the stigma and labels placed on formerly incarcerated individuals hinders their ability to successfully reintegrate back into society post-release.
