About STEP Virtual Math Jumpstart

Are you an incoming UC Davis EOP student who wants to get a head start on your math skills and score higher on the math placement test? Jumpstart might be a great fit for you this summer! 

Jumpstart is an online program designed for incoming UC Davis students who want to improve their algebra and beginning precalculus skills and learn about strategies to become a successful college student. The two previous cohorts of Jumpstart students saw an average increase of 15 points on the Math Placement Exam!

In Jumpstart, you'll receive instruction in algebra topics essential for success in calculus at UC Davis. You'll also learn college success skills, such as effective study strategies, information about resources at UC Davis, and much more.  Students who participate fully in the program and meet minimum attendance requirements will also gain a priority enrollment pass time to sign up for Winter Quarter 2026 classes!

Jumpstart runs from August 4, 2025 through September 12, 2025. 

There is no cost to participate, but space is limited. To apply, simply fill out the application form. Selected students will be contacted in late June. 

Eligibility

In order to be eligible, students must be:

• Incoming first-year or transfer EOP student starting at UC Davis Fall 2025 

• In a major that requires Calculus

• Needing to review precalculus topics (such as algebra & trigonometry) 

  • Recommended MPE Score: 10 - 24

• Available to participate in online activities for the 6-week program 

  • Aug. 4 - Sep. 12, approximately 15 hours per week (there will be some flexibility in the times)
