About Online Math Jumpstart
Are you an incoming UC Davis student who wants to get a head start on your math skills and score higher on the math placement test? Online Math Jumpstart might be a great fit for you this summer!
Jumpstart is an online program designed for incoming UC Davis students who want to improve their algebra and precalculus skills and learn about strategies to become a successful college student. A previous cohort of Jumpstart students saw an average increase of 12 points on the Math Placement Exam!
In Jumpstart, you'll receive instruction in algebra and precalculus topics. You'll also learn college success skills, such as effective study strategies, information about resources at UC Davis, and much more.
Jumpstart runs from August 5 through September 13, 2024.
There is no cost to participate, but space is limited. To apply, simply fill out the application form. Selected students will be contacted in late June.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible, students must be:
Starting at UC Davis Fall 2024
Incoming first-year or transfer student
In a major that requires Calculus
Needing to review precalculus topics (such as algebra & trigonometry)
Recommended MPE Score: 10 - 24
Available to participate in online activities for the 6-week program
Aug. 5 - Sep. 13, approx. 10 hours per week (there will be some flexibility in the times)
Meet Claire
Hi! My name is Claire, and I'm a math specialist in the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers (AATC) at UC Davis. Throughout the Jumpstart program, I'll be the instructor who will guide you through essential math concepts and equip you with the tools you need to succeed in college. I'm passionate about helping students overcome their math fears and improve their confidence and I'm looking forward to helping students in the Jumpstart program this summer. I hope that Jumpstart will help you overcome your anxiety about college-level math so you can start on the right foot in the fall!
