Jumpstart is an online program designed for incoming EOP students at UC Davis who want to improve their math skills to pass the Math Placement Exam (MPE) and develop college success strategies. The program runs from August 4 through September 12 during Summer 2025 and is taught by a math specialist from the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers.
Jumpstart is open to incoming first-year EOP students at UC Davis (including transfers) who are in majors requiring calculus and who want to improve their math skills to score higher on the Math Placement Exam (MPE). Space is limited, so participants will be selected based on interest and eligibility.

To apply for Jumpstart, simply fill out the application form on our website beginning April 15, 2025. If you are selected to participate, you will receive an invitation in late June with further instructions.
Jumpstart covers essential algebra and basic precalculus topics, including solving equations, working with exponents, factoring, simplifying, working with square roots and absolute values, and graphing lines and parabolas. Participants will also learn college success skills, such as effective study strategies, information about resources at UC Davis, and much more.
Jumpstart is a virtual program that runs from August 4 through September 12 during Summer 2025. The program includes live class sessions, self-paced online assignments, check-in appointments with EOP Peer Mentors, and interactive activities. The time commitment will depend on your individual needs and pace, but we recommend setting aside approximately 12-15 hours each week to fully participate in the program.
