Introduced the artifacts and examples of what they can make out of them (butterfly, magic wands)
She turned her attention to the clay, there are 18 individual colors of clay in the box
"It looks like slime"- She opened the clay and touched it
She combined the clay with the pipe cleaners
She put some clay at the tip of the pipe cleaners and used it as glue
Ariana asked "Can you tell me about what you made?"
Leanne- "I don't know"
Ariana- "It kind of reminds me of a sailboat"
Leanne nods her head slowly
Leanne asks how she can make the color orange
She tried to mix different colors of clay. She mixed red and yellow and she made a brighter red
Smiled while combining the clay to the pipe cleaner
Repeatedly spread the clay along the length of the pipe cleaner
Leanne was pretty reserved when we presented her with the items we created out of the pipe cleaners. We think this is because not only had she never met Charissa before but also because we think this was her first time engaging with pipe cleaners.
After noticing the box of clay, she became very interested in it and immediately wanted to open it
Leanne became significantly more interested when she touched the clay due to its interesting texture. Feels like a mix between play-doh and slime, and it is very sticky
We recognized note 4 and 5 as a direct example of her creativity wanting to be shown. She wanted to have control over what the pipe cleaners stuck to and how they moved.
6-9, Leanne was unsure of her creation when I asked her to explain it to me. However, because I am familiar with her behavior, this display of uncertainty showed itself as more of her searching for my approval. When I mentioned that her creation reminded me of a sailboat, she had a huge smile on her face.
More creativity and desire to control the outcomes of the clay were shown when she was wondering how to create the color orange.
When mixing the yellow and red, the colors were not quite ideal to make orange. We knew she needed more yellow but she decided to stop mixing the clay. She liked combining different colors of clays together and putting them on the tips of the pipe cleaners to join them
We can interpret Leanne's behavior as enjoying the craft. Her behavior showed us many examples of trial and error when she was experimenting with the clay. Many of her interactions also showed she was actively learning while engaging with the pipe cleaners and clay.
