Project Description
The video “Kuv Yog Hmoob (I Am Hmong)” tells the story of how I come to a better understanding of my Hmong American identity. In middle school and high school, I ignored my culture and had difficulty connecting to it. I just felt very ashamed and embarrassed to be Hmong. However, this all changed once I entered college, where I met the Hmong club that gave me the opportunity to embrace and learn more of my culture.
I also want to acknowledge Isao Fujimoto and his perception of community as inspiration for this video. He mentions how community is a group of people working together to achieve a goal. If I had never met the Hmong club, then I would not have been able to understand my identity. But, because of the officers’ dedication and hard work, I was able to grow as an individual.
