In CoLLab, we investigate the cognitive processes underlying human language processing, with a focus on memory, as well as the affect of aging on such processes. We also investigate the effect of lexical prediction (quantified by entropy) on language processing. Our empirical research looks into both language production and language comprehension and relies on behavioral and neural measures including eye-tracking and electroencephalography (EEG).

Jaden Zinn became interested in psycholinguistic research because of how it can provide explanations for why some writing methods are more effective than others. His hope is that psycholinguistics can help us understand what processes factor into proficiently wielding language, just as our knowledge of perception has helped us understand how to make great art. Currently, his research involves understanding how adding more or less distinctive information to a noun can change its ease of retrieval. Moving forward, he also plans to research individual differences in the comprehension of sentences with multiple noun referents and investigate the theory behind how descriptive information within sentences is assigned.
