Some projects may incur additional costs for materials.
Also; You may be encouraged to participate in events, fundraisers or various activities that could cost small fees, but this is not mandatory.

How is 4-H organized?
4-H is a world-wide organization consisting of individual clubs, such as Brentwood 4-H, that are run by a community leader. Each club also has a board consisting of 4-H youth members who run for positions such as president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and more. We meet once a month for community meetings, and members can sign up for project groups of their choice, which have separate meetings. There are also county and state events, fundraisers, community service days, parties, field days and more, which are optional.
How is 4-H related to the county fair?
4-H members in clubs in this county can participate in the Contra Costa County Fair. This is where members typically exhibit project work. 4-H members can compete in showmanship with the animals they raised and auction their market animals. The non-animal project groups can enter art work or make informational posters about their project. The county fair is a fun way for members to promote 4-H and show their work for the year.
What is community service in 4-H?
Community Service teaches members civic responsibility, and gives them organized opportunities to get involved in community.
Our 4-H has at least one community service project per month for all club members, such as drives, short hands-on activities or larger extra-club meeting activities. Some activities we have done in the past include food drives, creek clean-ups, and collecting donations for shelters.
Community service activities may be in conjunction with a project, county, or state event. In addition, projects may do community service within their programming.
Participation in community service is encouraged in 4-H.
What is a 4-H record book?
In a record book, members record all their 4-H related and some non-4-H related activities. Every year, members add the current year’s activities to their 4-H record book. Record Books are important tools for keeping track of your 4-H career and teach accurate record keeping.
A record book must be turned in for members to receive certain awards and recognition. Record Books may compete to receive awards at the Club, County and State levels at the end of each 4-H year. Record books are also required for some leadership awards and scholarships, as well as providing an excellent reference for college entrance and job interviews.
We encourage our members to complete a record book.
