TRUDY SANDERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Trudy Sanders was a former Crane Ridge 4-H and Livermore FFA member. She was dedicated to the Livestock industry and was a producer of quality Sheep and Beef projects. She also loved Rodeo and was a member of District 4. This award is designed to recognize outstanding individuals for their Leadership, Herdsmanship, Sportsmanship, and Showmanship.
WINNER RECEIVES A BUCKLE AND $200 CASH.
To apply, you must:
Be a 4-H exhibitor at the Alameda County Fair Junior Livestock Show in 2024.
Exhibit more than one species (horse, sheep, swine, beef, goat, dairy goat, or turkey) in 4-H.
Complete the Trudy Sanders Memorial Award application.
Include two letters of recommendation from leaders or someone (not a relative) who knows you well.
Submit your record book.
Submit a photo album that describes your 4-H experiences.
Be interviewed (date/time to be determined).
MEGAN BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Megan Brown was dedicated to her Horse, Sheep, and Beef projects. She strived for excellence in all her endeavors. Her greatest loves were her Breeding Beef projects and Cutting Horses. This award is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their Leadership, Herdsmanship, Sportsmanship, and Showmanship.
WINNER RECEIVES A BUCKLE AND $200 CASH.
To apply, you must:
Be a FFA exhibitor at the Alameda County Fair Junior Livestock Show in 2024.
Exhibit more than one species (horse, sheep, swine, beef, goat, dairy goat, or turkey) in FFA.
Complete the Megan Brown Memorial Award application.
Include two letters of recommendation from leaders or someone (not a relative) who knows you well.
Submit your record book.
Submit a photo album that describes your FFA experiences.

SAGE GILBERT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Sage Gilbert loved showing Hereford cattle and the people who showed cattle. He enjoyed helping and teaching others as much as he did showing. He was respected for his showmanship, herdsmanship and above all sportsmanship. He won every significant cattle award and master showmanship. Win or lose, he always shook the judge’s hand and walked out of the showring with a smile. Sage was honest, sincere, and a great leader. He enjoyed helping everyone who wanted to learn. He had an awesome personality, high ethical standards, and a love of life. Sage worked for everything he had, and he worked hard!
WINNER RECEIVES A BUCKLE AND $1000 SCHOLARSHIP.
(Scholarships will be awarded after proof of enrollment and will be distributed in two increments of $500 per semester for one year.)
To apply, you must:
Be a 2024 high school graduate.
Be a 4-H or FFA exhibitor at the 2024 Alameda County Fair.
Submit a photo album that describes your 4-H/FFA experiences.
Submit your record book.
Complete the Sage Gilbert Memorial Scholarship form.
Be interviewed (date/time to be determined).
Attend college beginning in the fall of 2024.
NAN COOK MEMORIAL SWINE SCHOLARSHIP
Born 1936 in Citrus Park, Arizona, Nan moved to the Bay Area at a young age and ended up in Livermore in 1947, where she attended Livermore High School. Nan worked at the VA hospital and LLNL as a young woman. She was a volunteer for many years. Nan was an active 4-H leader at both the club and county levels. Some of the projects she led included: Cooking, Sewing, Food Preservation, Swine, and Community Club Leader. She teamed up with her husband Richard and ran the 4-H Livestock Office for many years too. She was actively involved in the Livestock Auction Boosters and enjoyed the yearly BBQ at the fair.
WINNER WILL BE AWARDED A ONE-TIME $400 SCHOLARSHIP.
To apply, you must:
Be a current Alameda County 4-H member.
Be or have been a swine project member and showed a pig at the Alameda County Fair.
Hold or have held an office or been a Teen/Junior Leader.
Be between the ages of 17-19 years of age.
Complete the Nan Cook Memorial Swine Scholarship application.
Include two letters of recommendation from leaders or someone (not a relative) who knows you well.
Submit a photo album/scrapbook of your project.
Submit your current and/or previous Swine Project Report(s).
Be interviewed (date/time to be determined).
RICHARD COOK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Richard was born and raised in Puyallup, Washington. He graduated from both Washington State University and the University of Washington with Civil and Mechanical Engineering degrees. He served in the US Army and worked for Sandia National Laboratories for 34 years.
Richard was an active 4-H leader at both the club and county levels. He began his 4-H leadership in 1969 with the creation of a new club called Crane Ridge. He later became the Swine Species Leader and ran the Alameda County Fair 4-H Livestock Office. After 4-H, he teamed with Gordon Griffith to lead the Livermore FFA Swine Group. He was actively involved in the Livestock Auction Boosters for many years and enjoyed the annual fair BBQ. One of his proudest awards was the Western Fairs Association Blue Ribbon Award for his contributions to the Alameda County Fair.
WINNER WILL BE AWARDED A 2024 PROJECT PIG FROM THE ALAMEDA COUNTY SWINE BREEDING PROJECT.
To apply, you must:
Be a current Alameda County 4-H member.
NOT have been involved in a Swine project previously.
Enroll in an Alameda County Swine project for the 2024/2025 project year.
Complete the Richard Cook Memorial Scholarship application.
Include two letters of recommendation from leaders or someone (not a relative) who knows you well.
Submit a photo album/scrapbook of your project.
Be interviewed (date/time to be determined).
