Athletics March 5, 2026
The winter athletics season has come to an end at the Prep. While this winter seemed long, it was a season of growth, teamwork, and fun for our Prep athletes.
Our eight Prep basketball teams had great seasons, and the U13 A team had a very strong finish. Led by Year 7 Form Adviser John Berney, the team won the CISAA championship with a spirited win over Crescent.
The Alpine team, made up of Year 7 and Year 8 students, had 4 training and race days over the season. They peaked at the right moment under Coach Nancy Preston, as the team won the overall CISAA Championship at Mansfield last week. The team was led by Addison Blott, who won the CISAA individual championship.
The Prep Swim team, made up of students in Year 5, 6, and 7, had an incredible season under Coaches Colalillo, Labancz and Trelford. Our Prep swimmers won each age category and the overall CISAA Championship. Congratulations!
The three Prep hockey teams had an exciting end to the season. The Year 5 and 6 team participated in the final CISAA tournament at UCC. The College hosted all 10 CISAA teams, and the Year 6 team (U12) secured third place after falling to a very skilled Aurora team in the semis.
The U14 Prep hockey team, fresh off a Montreal tournament victory, had a strong end to the regular season by defeating Crestwood and UCC’s Year 8 team to secure third place in the CISAA standings. The Year 7’s defeated the Year 8’s again in the first playoff game to reach the Frozen Four in Aurora. In the semi-finals, the Year 7’s fell to a strong team from Bathurst and St. Clair but rallied to defeat Crescent in the bronze medal game. This was an incredible accomplishment for the team in a grade-8-dominated league.
Information about spring sports will be presented to Prep students this week, and a follow-up article for parents will be in Heads Up in late March. Go Blues!
