The Prep spring athletics term has ended, and it was a successful season for our young athletes.
We had great success in our track and field program. The entire Year 4 class participated on this team, and they competed against other schools in the CISAA. Our Year 7 team members had worked diligently, and numerous athletes returned from the CISAA finals with medals. It was great to see so many giving it their all on the track or in field events. Congratulations!
On the diamonds, we fielded 5 softball teams from U11 (Year 5) to U14 (Year 7). The U11 team, led by Mr. Rossi, had an outstanding season and even defeated numerous U12 teams at a tri-meet. At the highest level, Mr. Green’s U14A softball team battled all season and made it to the final four.
A highlight of the spring season is the U14 A softball team morphing into a hardball team to play a two-game series in Buffalo against our friends at Nichols School. Under the expert coaching of Mr. Green and Mr. Berney, the team split their cross-border series and enjoyed a Bisons game.
As we reflect on another outstanding spring sports season, there is much to celebrate across our athletic program. While championships and results are certainly worth recognizing, what stands out most is the dedication, commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by our student-athletes throughout the season.
From early morning practices on the water to long days of competition, our teams consistently demonstrated what it means to represent the College with pride. Athletes supported one another, embraced challenges, and showed a willingness to put the success of their teams ahead of individual achievement. Their hard work and commitment have been evident in every sport.
This spring also brought remarkable competitive success. Our varsity lacrosse team captured a championship for the first time in 25 years, a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to years of dedication and growth within the program. Varsity baseball continued its dominance by securing a third consecutive championship, while our track and field program once again demonstrated its depth and strength by winning the junior boys, senior boys and overall championships. We also celebrate our tennis program sweeping CISAA with championship performances by our U14, U16, and varsity tennis teams. Not to be outdone, varsity badminton earned its fifth straight CISAA championship, highlighted by a gold medal performance at OFSAA in mixed doubles.
The season is not yet over for several of our athletes. varsity baseball will represent CISAA at OFSAA in Windsor as the number 2 seed from the west, while our track and field athletes will travel to Niagara to compete against the province's best. We are also excited to see our rowing athletes head to the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association (CSSRA) Championships next weekend. After a strong season on the water, they will arrive with high hopes and the opportunity to compete for medals on the national stage.
Beyond the results, what has been most encouraging is the way our athletes have represented themselves, their teammates and the College. They have competed with integrity, shown respect for opponents and officials, and demonstrated that success is measured not only by victories but also by the character displayed in pursuit of them.
Congratulations to all of our athletes, coaches, and staff on a memorable spring season. Thank you for your commitment, effort, and pride in representing the Blues. We look forward to seeing what the remainder of the season brings and building on this success in the years ahead.
Yours in sport,
David Brown
