The Week Without Bells wrapped up last week, leaving students with lasting memories, new outdoor skills, and lessons that will stay with them for life. Feedback from Years 9 to 11 highlighted the power of experiential learning and the benefits of spending time in a tech-free environment immersed in nature. The Year 8 and Year 11 cohorts particularly valued the opportunity to share a campsite and learn from one another.
Meanwhile, Year 12 students appreciated the chance to slow down and focus on their Diploma Programme components while on campus. Their week concluded with a field trip to the University of Toronto and a Collaborative Science Project on soil, inspired by guest speaker Michael Sacco, founder of ChocoSol Traders.
Monday’s Principal’s Assembly was dedicated to celebrating Pride at UCC, led by student leaders of the GSA and pluralism council. Clips from alum Chas Conacher ’13's documentary, The Legend in Me, were screened as well. The community event also included a panel that answered questions posed by the student body, and a musical performance on piano and drums. Students also visited the mezzanine this week to have their photos taken on Picture Day.
It was another successful Week Without Bells experience for our Upper School students. Over four days in beautiful Haliburton and Huntsville, students and faculty came together to build community, strengthen connections, and create lasting memories. The week provided valuable opportunities for teamwork, friendship, and personal growth as students lived and learned alongside their peers in a supportive and engaging environment.
Please note that professional photos from all of the camps will be uploaded in the Week Without Bells tile in Bluenet by the end of the week.
Dear Year 10 Families,
As Year 10 students progress towards completion of the IB Middle Years Programme, they will have begun looking ahead to the next stage of their UCC learning journey. Students entering Year 11 have the opportunity to pursue one of three UCC Graduation Pathways:
IB Diploma Programme
IB Diploma Programme Courses Pathway (by application)
IB Diploma Programme Systems Transformation Pathway (by application)
Each pathway is academically rigorous while offering flexibility, enabling students to customize their studies in preparation for top-tier universities and competitive postsecondary programs. Students will earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) along with either the IB Diploma (in the IB DP and IB DP Systems Transformation Pathways) or IB Course Certificates (IB Courses Pathway).
You are invited to join us for an information evening that will offer an overview of all three pathways:
Date: Thursday, Oct. 30
Time: 6–7:30 p.m.
Format: Virtual (Zoom)
Following a brief presentation about each pathway, we will be pleased to take your questions. If you would like to submit any questions in advance, please do so here.
In addition to this overview session, Upper School families will have opportunities to learn about the pathways and Years 11 and 12 programming in more depth:
UCC Graduation Pathways Information Evening #2: Tuesday, Nov. 18, 6–8 p.m. (in person, Manucha & Bellamy Studio Theatre, Upper School)
UCC Graduation Pathways Information Evening #3: Monday, Dec. 1, 6–7:30 p.m. (Virtual)
DP Course Selection Information Evening: Tuesday, Jan. 13, 7–8:30 p.m. (Virtual)
This schedule will also be shared in Heads Up, and a recording of the virtual session will be posted to the parent resource boards on Bluenet.
If you have any questions, please email our Administrative Coordinator of Learning and Academic Innovation, Regina Li.
We look forward to partnering with you to explore these graduation pathways and support students as they pursue their passions, realize their potential, and find success in the next stages of their learning journeys.
Warm regards,

Dear UCC Community,
My Name is Hashim, and I'm a Year 10 student hosting a community-wide shoe drive.
I have partnered with Soles4Souls, a respected non-profit organization, to collect gently worn and used shoes for people struggling financially in developing nations. Without shoes, these individuals are at risk of infections and diseases. Furthermore, the collected shoes are also given to women entrepreneurs who can sell them to start their own small businesses, offering them a sustainable path out of poverty.
This is a powerful cause, and your help can truly change lives. Please look through your closets for any shoes that are too small or no longer worn. Simply bring them to the Bernick Family Foyer and place them in the provided collection boxes. One pair of shoes can provide hope for someone else. Your shoes will be sent to the Soles4Souls warehouse where they will be organized and later sent off to developing nations across the world to people in need.
The Footprints for Hope Shoe Drive will officially begin on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and will run until Friday, Nov. 14. You will hear more reminders and details in upcoming Heads Up notices. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
To learn more about the non-profit organization, please visit Soles4Souls Canada and watch this video, Turning shoes into opportunity.
Thank you for your time and help in making this project a success and changing lives forever.
Sincerely,
Class of 2028, Seaton’s
